Building Community through Culture, Design and First-Gen Experiences (Frost 101)
A workshop by Leslie Ponce-Diaz (Grad, Harvard University)
About this Workshop
Imagine turning a Hot Cheetos bag into a scholarship guide or an ice-cream cart into a stand where students can receive free school supplies. Inspired by my love for Mexican paleteria’s (ice-cream shops), I founded my community-organization named First-Gen Chisme. Dedicated to empowering first-generation students through the intersections of design, culture, education and mentorship.
In this workshop, we will be exploring the ways in how design, culture and education work together to express our first-generation and cultural backgrounds to help build community. How could we use our creativity to help empower and embark change in our communities? Join us as we learn about creative non-profits across the U.S. embarking on creative impact and hopefully feel inspired by the possibilities in your own community!
