About this Workshop

In this session, faculty and staff will discuss supporting first-generation students in the classroom. This presentation will highlight best practices that can be incorporated into lectures and class meetings equipped to offer more support and guidance to students new to the college classroom. These practices will be looking at syllabi construction, classroom transparency, and the hidden curriculum. Presenters will also discuss the potential barriers first-generation students commonly face and success stories of students who benefited from additional resources and initiatives offered in and outside the classroom. Presenters will lastly share what resources can potentially be brought and used on your respective campuses.
